Summary
Iris rescued himself. Gathering the impetus to leave after years of working for his mother's evil medical research conglomerate, Iris is a burned out engineer in search of finding himself through art. He stumbles into the middle a complex roomate situation between Lillium, Begonia, and Heather. Lillium doesn't want any disturbances nor anyone else to appear in his life just to disappear on him. Heather is on a journey to prove to the state that she is responsible enough to be Sunny's guardian. And Begonia is doing everything she can to keep the lights on at the cafe that she co-owns with Lillium in Goose Lake Valley. What can go wrong?

Lillium isn't making a habit of visiting a particular coffee shop. Or, if he is, it's not because he finds a particular barista there cute (also interesting, charming, and oddly soothing to be around.) Absolutely not. Iris just makes good coffee, that's all.
Lillium may be just a tiny bit in denial.
Iris is having a hard time believing his interest is ever going to be returned, given the way Lillium pretends not to notice.

But when he wields his sword, he wonders if maybe instead he got her cruelty, and it was only waiting–waiting to bite and snap and tear until he was the monster everyone thought he was.
Iris needs a break.

this is a silly little project i am making [posting a chapter biweekly or more] and it focuses mainly on lilium white, the bestest character ever [mwah]. the year is in the 1970s, when an unspecified war takes place, and lilium chooses to become a soldier. Iris happens to also be around, taking the role of a painter and inventor, at the time of new ideas. They bring out aspects of eachother that neither of them seem to understand, and confuse eachother rather than become immediate friends like Heather wants them to be. After all, people who live in the same house should probably tolerate eachother, at least for the time being?

Iris and Lillium lose track of Lou after entering the alternate world of the Escape Plan book, leaving them stuck in this universe and lodging in the townhouse of their alternate selves. Following the interaction Lillium has with this world's Iris ("It's just… You haven't tried to kiss me all day." "Sometimes, I like to be kissed first.") Not-Iris mischievously convinces Iris to cover his scars to see if his Lillium can truly tell the two apart.
"Do you think your Lillium can tell us apart?"
Iris pondered this. "Well, yeah. I have scars, and you don't" he responds, matter-of-factly.
"I mean, say we were to cover up your scars and we looked identical. Think he could tell?"
"Hmm… Did he notice anything off when you first met?"
"Not…at first." His face flushed slightly, recalling their interaction. He figured it wasn't his Lillium, but their near-kiss flustered him nonetheless. A mischievous idea came to his mind, and he put his pencil down and shifted the conversation to deflect from his embarrassment. "You should test him."

“Lillium?” The man in question looks up.
“Yeah? I thought you were having a bath?”
“Well, I was– but then the tap stopped working. Because of the limited water– and now you aren’t gonna be able to have a bath because I used up all of the water–” Iris stumbled through his words quickly;
“We can bathe together.” Lillium offered, but the second the suggestion left his mouth, he regretted it. His cheeks turned pink, matching his hair. Thankfully Iris was too caught off guard by his words themselves to notice.
