He woke up screaming. Or he thought he did. In hindsight he wasn't sure how much noise he was actually making given how dry his mouth was. His throat felt like someone had put a chainsaw down it and he distantly wondered if they'd had to intubate him. The tears streaming down his face were scalding. He thrashed, screaming hot pain ricocheting through his lower spine, unknown hands held him down as he continued to yell, lungs starved of oxygen as he struggled to take a breath through the lump in his throat.
Hours later, he would realise they were trying to hold him still to stop him paralysing himself.

The red light ahead changed, and Dennis eased the car through the intersection, the tires splashing through puddles as the drains couldn’t keep up with the amount of rain coming down.
He didn’t notice the black truck barreling toward him, headlights off, until it was too late.
The world seemed to tilt, then straighten, then tilt again. A deafening roar of brakes squeaking, metal crunching, and sirens filled his ears. “Michael” was the last thought in his head before he slipped unconscious with the rain dripping onto his face through the broken window.

It takes his brain a long time to catch up with that one.
He might be the one who stops breathing—sharp, one blink, two, and then he's coughing into the meat of Dennis' shoulder as the shock finally catches him off guard. "You what, mouse?"

About 30 minutes later he can hear the alarm going off from their room and the grumbling of Robby as Dennis quickly turns it off. Moments later the younger man comes shuffling out wrapped in a blanket hair sticking up at odd angles. “G’morning,” he mumbles sleepily.
Jack looks up and smiles patting the couch next to him, “Morning sweetheart.” Dennis flops down next to Jack and lays his head on Jack’s shoulder. “What, Mikey’s cuddles weren’t enough?”
Dennis snorts and reaches for Jack’s mug, “He’s like a big grumpy porcupine this early in the morning.”
“Well, I’m glad you came out here and cuddled me even if you are going to steal my coffee.”

Or, a baby got to the ER thirty minutes ago and hasn't stopped crying since. It's starting to get on everyone's nerves. He is, unfortunately, the one in charge, so it's his problem to deal with.
