Summary
Elain knelt in the garden of the River house, staring at her hands as she tried to will herself to stand up and go back inside. Her body ached. Her head throbbed. She had sat there for hours, trying to convince her body to move, but she was frozen. She leaned into her hands and tried to press to her again, collapsing into the dirt with a whimper.
A curious shadow strayed into her field of vision, nudging at her face softly, encouraging her to get to her feet. She let out another whimper as the light hit her eyes just wrong and searing pain radiated from her temple down her neck and spine. Another shadow joined the first, the nudging turning insistent- pulling at her dress to try to get her back upright. She closed her eyes to the shadows, her last thought being she should take a nap. She would feel better after she took a nap.
