Summary
In a world of the lost and the damned, all they have is each other.
When the world burns, and nobody is left unscathed, those that survive come together, finding community and safety in a world that knows no peace.
Among them are two lost souls: Katara and Zuko. One is a caregiver with the heart of fighter who's only ever known home, the other, an outcast without a purpose, given reason in this new world.
Together they build a life in this land of death. Love among the lost becomes the foundation for a family most bizzare, but close.
Not all is well even as they find a sense of peace, as when resources begin to dwindle, and members of their family vanish in an attempt to solve the issue, Zuko is forced to leave their home, tasking himself with finding their loved ones and supplies to keep the village going.
What starts as a journey to save his loved ones spirals into a world Zuko could never have known. A world where the dead and damned know no rest, where nightmares come to life, where old wounds and bad blood refuse to die, and where mad gods slumber awaiting the end of time.
But if it means keeping his family safe, Zuko will dive headfirst into this world born from the ashes.

Summary
Before the time of the Avatar the spirits danced. As the humans grew, they learned from the dances and eventually made it their own. They gained the gifts of elements from the spirits who fell in love with their dance. In order to keep balance between those with different gifts, the Avatar was not the only spirit that moved through humans. The spirits of the major elements also bonded themselves to a human vessel, much like the Avatar spirit. That souldbonded human was to serve as the link between the great spirit and the human world. They were also meant to be the teachers of the Avatar to assist in keeping balance in a world full of wonder and power.
That was true, until everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked.

The horizon was no longer empty. A ship cut through the mist—massive and black, with its metal sides slick with frost. Smoke bellowed upward from its smokestack, an oily smear against the pale sky. The ship slowed as it approached, shadow falling long and dark across their fragile ice floe.
The engines hissed, then went quiet. Then a head popped over the rail. An older man with silver hair peered down at them, his face kind, as he called out, “Hey, you kids need some help?”

After being marooned as a thirteen year old in the southern pole , Zuko spends his following teenage years in the southern water tribe where he deveops emotions for the Chief's daughter, Katara. However, he delays to acknowledge his feelings. After returning to the Fire Nation, Zuko learns that home isn't necessary by origin and he finds his way back to the southern water tribe where a lot has changed since he left.
In the midst of a bloody crisis between the chieftain clans of the southern water tribes who have being manipulated by the Northern water tribe , Zuko must prove that he is ready to become a legitimate part of Hakoda's clan while trying to regain his friendship with Katara , who might have a love for him that is even greater than he thinks.
And will he be able to resist the royal, oppulent and luxury filled life handed over as an alternative to him by the Fire-Nation?
