Lee feels like the bag hooked up to his arm is pouring ice directly into his veins. He doesn't know exactly what's in it, some new experimental cocktail full of chemo and vitamins and hope. The room is warm, but the infusion burns like his blood licked a frozen flagpole.
He shivers, drawing his knees up beneath the blanket the nurse gave him, eyes still closed as he prays for a nap. His ears pick up the sound of wheels against tile–quiet and quick, too much speed for an IV pole.
"Cold, baby darling?" Nigel asks. Lee smiles, listening to the clicks as Nigel throws the brakes on his wheelchair.
