Optimus Prime rules an Iacon facing crisis - the Well of Allsparks has stopped producing newsparks, and now the city's population is in decline. Desperate, he must brave the dangerous Wastelands to beg help from Cybertron's other remaining cities.
He never makes it. Attacked and captured by barbarians, he is forced to become the "mate" of their leader, his compliance ensured by the threat placed against his young charge, Bumblebee, and his dear friend, Ratchet. Somehow, he must find a way to get free, and get help, whether it be from Iacon or any other civilized people.

In a distant past, Cybertron was nearly destroyed, leaving large parts of it uninhabitable, and most of the population infertile. Primus created the Wells to provide newsparks until the population healed. That is not what happened. The remaining cities closed themselves off and were taken over by priests who kept the population infertile and unaware, frightened of each other and those living in the Wastelands. Meanwhile, the mechs of the Wastelands are not so different to citymechs, though they've long since returned to carrying their newsparks themselves.
The time has come for Cybertron to unite once more.

Orion Pax had been hurrying out of the Archive and back to his dock for his shift when an ancient artifact, propulsed by the explosion of Sentinel Prime (with a little too much speed to be completely believable, but then again, the Matrix of Leadership was known to do strange things to fundamental physics on occasion), sailed it's way from the Primal Palace Entrance and directly into his chestplates.
Primus, it seemed, had seen a chance to get a new, better Prime to serve his children in the explosive assassination of his unchosen Prime. There was Civil War to avert, and nothing short of the most optimal Prime would do.
The Matrix was a mysterious artifact for a reason. It also never was as powerful as when the very fate of Cybertron hung in the balance. Poised on the edge of the destruction of Cybertronian Civilisation, as it was then, as it had been back during the Quintesson Invasion, the Vessel of Primus could do miracles.
