Puss’s voice was low, just above a murmur, meant for her ears alone. When Dulcinea turned, startled, she found him already watching her.

“Why not?” She rested her head on his chest once more, right above his heart. “Maybe that little bird was here for a heart just now, too.”
“I hope not,” Puss muttered.

Post-finale. Although Dulcinea wants Puss in Boots to finally rest, she can not bare the sight of him asleep. His peaceful face, his closed eyes, his resting arms at the side – it all reminds her too clearly of his body cradled in her arms, dead.

“Almost a full day,” she answered quietly, a weak smile tugging at the corner of her lips. “You had us worried.”
Puss’s eyes softened, and he let out a croaky sigh. “Sorry,” he said simply, his voice dropping to a whisper. Dulcinea couldn’t tell whether it was from weariness or guilt. It was probably from both. “It was not my intention to make you worry.”
Dulcinea felt a stir in her chest, a funny mix of frustration and affection. Puss had a special knack for awakening that in her.

Puss in Boots overworks himself and becomes bed-bound with a fever. This is not surprising. Dulcinea, whether he wants it or not, stands by his side. This does not surprise anyone either. Puss admits a weakness and Dulcinea faces her feelings. This, neither of them expected.

The innocent question caught Dulcinea off guard – not to mention Puss’ small impatient gesture, which she had only ever seen from the children of the orphanage. Dulcinea couldn’t help herself and she let out a giggle.
Such things just didn’t fit the Puss in Boots in her mind, wanted posters and all.
