Summary
The buildings outside were just as gold as the room she was in. All around, as far as she could see, were spires upon spires of golden towers. Far below her window she could just make out small white figures moving around gold streets. She looked up, expecting to see a dark night sky, and gasped in shock at the gargantuan celestial body looming above the city.
It looked like a planet, if planets were the size of moons, and so close she could make out the clouds in its atmosphere. She squinted her eyes, looking closer at the planet. Was that? She thought she saw herself in one of those clouds. There! What was that?
Jean crawled out of the window, using her powers to float closer to the other planet. Was that Scott? And what on earth was he wearing? She reached out with her telepathy, finding no mind where she expected it.

James McGonagall never asked to be a mutant and he certainly never wanted to be a leader, but as his good friend Remy LeBeau would tell him, that’s just what the cards have dealt him. He is known as Gatekeeper due to the fact that his mutant ability was creating portals. He could create portals to other places on earth or to a pocket dimension. He grew up on the streets, never really remembering what happened to his parents. He’s traveled across much of North America during his youth and he has seen all manner of discrimination against mutantkind. He doesn’t really know what he believes in anymore and he definitely doesn’t know if he agrees with Charles Xavier’s plan for humans and mutant peace and harmony, that doesn’t mean he agrees with Erik Lehnsherr’s plan to wipe out humanity. But we re getting ahead of ourselves and should start the story at the very beginning.

This changes with the addition of three new members: Jamie Madrox, Betsy Braddock and Amara Aquilla, who had joined a new Brotherhood, but had a crisis of conscience. Scott Summers and Hank McCoy are skeptical, but Bobby Drake and the Professor seem more open to the idea. Cracks start to form, however. Betsy may not be who she says she is, the nature of Jamie's powers make him impossible to trust, and the modern world seems completely foreign to Amara. And as the new Brotherhood they left grows into something bigger, the New X-Men must learn to work as a team to brace for the coming Age of Marvels.
